Custom Blinds

For homeowners, one of the areas they would have to decide on is whether or not they need to invest in curtains or blinds for their windows. Both options have their pros and cons. For instance, curtains are ideal for soundproofing and insulation. However, blinds are the ideal option for improved energy efficiency and better control of natural light.

The energy efficiency feature is an attractive proposition for custom blinds, especially since Australia is one of the hottest continents in the world, featuring extended summers. People are aware of the benefits of blinds and shades in their homes. The Australian windows covering industry, which includes blinds and curtains, is quite robust. With a compound annual growth rate of 2.0%, the market is expected to hit $1.6 billion by the end of 2020.

What are Custom Blinds?

Window blinds

As the name suggests, designer blinds are custom-made for the unique specifications of each customer. The dimensions, fabrics, and designs are bespoke to each home. While the typical house features standard-sized windows, some homes are constructed specifically to suit the tastes of their homeowners. This means that the ready-made blinds market is not equipped to match the window measurements of the house. It is the reason why manufacturers offer custom blinds, which are noted for their flexibility and adaptability.

As you might expect, because of their distinct features, a made-to-order blind is more costly compared to your standard shade.

Custom-built blinds also demand custom installation. Yes, they still require the drilling of holes and the fastening of the valance, but the unique specifications of each window complicate the procedure. The installers need to ensure that the levels are straight and the blinds are securely fastened for perfect results.

Blinds come in different designs and sizes. The most common types are Venetian blinds, Roman blinds, roller, pleated, plantation, and vertical blinds. There are also honeycomb blinds, which offer higher insulation.

The roller blinds are one of the cheapest around as their cost start at $30 up to $90 for ready-made products measuring 400mm x 600mm. Of course, designer blinds are more expensive than the standard brand. Vertical blinds are also quite affordable as you can order one for around $40 up to $65. Aluminium blinds, meanwhile, can start at $40 up to $60.

Venetian blinds featuring faux timber start at around $64 while real timber will cost around $100 at the minimum. In the same vein, the plantation blinds will start at around $100. Honeycomb blinds, which are one of the newer designs available in the market, start at $65 although they can go as high as $200.

If you have a bigger budget, you can opt for Roman blinds, panel blinds, or vertisheer blinds. Vertisheer blinds feature vertical slats that can be custom-built to fit your home. They are traditionally installed in living rooms and noted for their contemporary style.

For custom blinds, you can expect to pay about $250 on the lower end of the spectrum. However, they will immediately enhance the interior of your home and ramp up the style factor. You create a unique showpiece because your blinds are made specifically for you, which means a very rare chance of finding a similar design on someone else’s home.
