This question comes up to us when designing or remodeling your home. Since the upgrades we are making to our house carry different maintenance commitments, we can not simply leave behind our picture-perfect and “sheer” delightful curtains!

But, with new designs and options overwhelming the market, we often get confused between the good old traditional curtains or those stringy blinds. The answer is that it depends on your usage and requirements. Want to know the characteristics of both? Read further if you want to know what is better for you, blinds or curtains:

Curtains Blinds

Durability-wise

Blinds are likely to be more durable than cloth curtains because they are made of wood, whereas cloth curtains are made of material that can become moth-eaten, stained, or moldy.

As you can fathom, curtains in bathrooms and kitchens have a large risk of mold and stains because of the constant moisture. Ready or custom-made Shutter Smith Blinds are likely to be more durable than cloth curtains because they are made of premium and long-lasting materials.

Expenses-wise

Curtains can be made out of fabric with little difficulty. It’s possible to buy pre-made curtain fabrics, or you can even make your own.

As a result of the lack of complicated hardware and fittings, installing curtains can be done by anybody. However, professional assistance is required for some automated larger sizes.

On the other hand, window treatments made of plastic or wood tend to be more expensive than those made of fabric. As a result, the cost of installation is also significantly reduced.

It is necessary to customize the various sections of a blind (fabric or material, cords, headrail, and so on) for each window’s dimensions. The installation and repair of the numerous sections, unlike with drapes, necessitates specialized labor, which is an additional expense.

Light-wise

When it comes to controlling light, a layer of sheer curtains can be used during the day and the second layer of heavy curtains can be used at night to ensure a decent night’s sleep. Using roman or roller blinds has the advantage of allowing maximum light into a room when raised, but the drawback is that when they are lowered, light enters from the sides.

Make sure that the blinds you choose are long and wide enough to block out light completely. The slatted shape of horizontal and vertical Venetian blinds allows light to enter even when the blinds are closed all the way. Venetian blinds have a lift cord or tilt mechanism that controls light access.

Cleaning-wise

Cleaning blinds will be comparatively easier. When you dust your blinds with a microfiber cloth, you’ll be done in no time. Close the slats and use a duster to remove dust from the top down or from one side to the other, then rotate the slats 180 degrees and repeat the process in the opposite direction to remove dust from the other side of the blinds.

The process of cleaning curtains is more time-consuming. Dust can be removed by using a dust brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner and working your way up from the bottom to the top. To remove dirt and stains, spritz the affected areas with a solution of 1/4th white vinegar and 3/4th water.

Bottom line, there is no specific answer to this question. Depending on your home aesthetic, priorities, and budget, you can choose either curtains or blinds. Maintaining both come with a cost, but both are worth it in their own place!
