Apple Inc. (AAPL) has postponed the return to Apple Park and other office buildings until January 2022. This is the latest postponement by the company and other companies in response to the surge in new crown cases and variant virus cases.

Bloomberg quoted Apple’s internal notification report that this is the second time Apple has delayed returning to the office in recent weeks. Apple originally planned to return employees to the office in October this year. Apple intends to let employees work in the office three days a week. The reporter has not yet contacted the company for comment.

Several other tech giants, including Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN), Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc. (GOOG), Facebook Inc. (FB) and Twitter Inc. (TWTR) have also postponed their return to the office until 2022 January of the year.

According to data from Morningstar, in the first seven months of this year, investors invested US$705 billion in exchange-traded funds (ETFs), pushing the total global ETF assets to a record high of 9.1 trillion in 2021.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzlGYsHvJe4

The net inflow of funds this year has almost surpassed the US$736.5 billion invested by global investors in ETFs in 2020. According to relevant data, most of the funds have entered low-cost index tracking funds. Investors are very interested in large-market value and short-term bond ETFs and anti-inflation products.

Among them, the inflow of funds into U.S. ETFs reached a record 519 billion U.S. dollars, and the total assets of U.S. ETFs thus reached approximately 6.6 trillion U.S. dollars. The total amount of funds held by global ETFs is now higher than that of mutual funds that track indexes. As of June, the latter’s asset size was US$8.8 trillion. However, overall mutual funds still hold more funds, with an asset size of approximately 40.7 Trillions of dollars.

ETF is a basket of securities, and its trading is as easy as stocks. ETFs do not set a minimum investment amount like many mutual funds, and they are generally more cost-effective in terms of taxation, and their fees are also lower. The first ETF came out in 1993. After that, the success of this product was far from certain, but the enthusiasm for low-cost investment has driven the explosive growth of ETF assets in the past 10 years.

The heavyweight UN IPCC report “Climate Change in 2021: The Basics of Natural Science” was officially announced today at 4 pm. Unlike previous assessments, the IPCC report officially confirmed that humans are the chief culprit of climate change. Scientists warned in the report: The speed of global warming is faster than imagined. If we do not take action, the disaster facing mankind will be inevitable.

The report has 3,500 pages and is co-authored by 234 top scientists from more than 60 countries. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the report “the red code of mankind” and pointed out that “global warming is affecting every region on the planet, and many of these changes are becoming irreversible.”

Today’s United Nations climate report is an urgent call to action for the world: we must reach net-zero emissions by 2050 to avoid a climate disaster. https://t.co/eSaC2HyD8q

The reason for the warming of the earth is human beings

According to CNN, this report more deeply blames human greenhouse gas emissions for global warming than any previous IPCC climate report.

This is no longer a question of “natural and man-made” climate change. Human society’s dependence on fossil fuels is the cause of the earth’s warming. These fuels produce large amounts of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane.

The more serious problem is that the rate of warming is faster than scientists thought! If we do not act quickly, humans will heat the earth by 1.5°C in 2040. Previously, scientists identified 1.5°C as a critical threshold for warming up — when the temperature rises above 1.5°C, the effects of climate change may be devastating.

According to BBC reports, in the ten years from 2011 to 2020, the global surface temperature was 1.09°C higher than that between 1850 and 1900. The past five years have been the hottest on the planet since 1850 on record.

This year’s historic drought, widespread wildfires and deadly floods around the world are confirming the views of scientists in reality.

The Only Way to Stop Warming: End Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The IPCC reported that the only good news is that it is still possible to stay below the 1.5°C threshold.

The only way to stop the temperature rise is to immediately cut greenhouse gas emissions drastically.

Although most countries signed the Paris Climate Agreement in 2015, it is still not enough! The Paris Climate Agreement aims to control the increase in global temperature this century to a range far below 2°C and strive to keep it below 1.5°C.

The latest report said that even if scientists consider all emission conditions, unless carbon emissions are significantly reduced, the temperature rise this century will soon reach the threshold, close to 2°C.

The scientists set a goal in the report: If humans can reduce global emissions by half by 2030 and reach zero emissions by the middle of this century, the rising trend of greenhouse gas emissions can be reversed or even stopped.
There is not much time left for mankind!

Over the years, JetBlue executives have been discussing the opening of flights to London. Now, things finally happened. Last week, JetBlue began selling air tickets on a new route from Kennedy Airport in New York to the two largest airports in London.

It will take time to establish a successful transatlantic franchise. Nonetheless, the launch of these new routes represents an important step towards taking advantage of the huge opportunities for profitable long-term growth in Europe.

JetBlue Finalized Its Original London Plan

After JetBlue officially announced that it will enter the London market, the biggest question is which airport (or airport) it will serve there. Before the pandemic, slot restrictions made it difficult for new entrants such as JetBlue to serve the city’s two main international gateways, Heathrow and Gatwick.

When the pandemic disrupted air travel demand (especially long-distance flights), JetBlue’s problem was over. Earlier this year, the slot coordinator at London Airport awarded slots for Heathrow and Gatwick airports to popular low-cost airlines.

On Wednesday, JetBlue announced that it will start daily service between JFK and Heathrow Airport on August 11. It will add daily flights between JFK and Gatwick on September 29. It will use Airbus A321LR aircraft to operate the two routes, the aircraft will be equipped with 141 seats, including 24 private “suites” in the premium mint cabin. Even coach customers will benefit from the facilities included in the fare including meals, alcoholic beverages, self-service snack bars and Wi-Fi.

The mint cabin on JetBlue’s Airbus A321LR jet includes seats that fold into a flatbed.

JetBlue hopes to create a sensation with a lower entry fee. It is offering two-way flights starting at US$599 for US customers, while it is offering lower starting prices for UK customers. Even the mint hut starts at less than $2,000.

More Growth in 2022 and Beyond

Two years ago, when JetBlue converted 13 of its new A321 orders to A321LR, it planned to deliver all 13 in 2021. This will enable it to quickly establish an important footprint in London.

However, JetBlue subsequently delayed the delivery of many aircraft to reduce recent capital expenditures and better match its growth with expected demand. Currently, JetBlue expects to deliver only three A321 LR aircraft this year, and three more in 2022. Therefore, JetBlue postponed the launch of the Boston-London flight until next summer. Even so, it will still have enough planes to and from London four or five times a day. This shows that JetBlue’s London business will not be fully deployed until at least 2023.

As airlines holding vacant seats at Heathrow Airport resume their schedules in the next year or two, JetBlue will be forced to leave this ideal airport unless it can secure a permanent vacancy.
